UBS Chairman Portrayed as the “Bad Guy” in Swiss Drama

Marcel Ospel, the chairman of UBS, is portrayed as the villain in a hit Swiss Drama on the downfall of Swissair. The film, called Grounding – the Last Days of Swissair has proven a huge hit in Swiss cinemas. Grounding depicts people still in the public eye in Switzerland, most prominently Mr Ospel, who is portrayed as a calculating powerbroker who is more concerned about his firm’s rivalry with Credit Suisse than saving Swissair. Mr Ospel has told the Swiss press he is not upset with his portrayal in the film, and most critics agree that the film oversimplifies his role in the demise of one of the most iconic airlines the world has ever seen. Nevertheless, this hasn’t stopped its popularity in Switzerland.
